Aims and Scope
The primary mission of the Journal of Social Problems of Iran is the identification, theoretical elucidation, and critical analysis of the social challenges and transformations within Iranian society from sociological and interdisciplinary perspectives. Given the multidimensional and complex nature of social problems, the journal welcomes original articles (both theoretical and empirical) in the fields of sociology, anthropology, demography, cultural studies, communications, and other allied disciplines.
The ultimate objective of this quarterly is to forge a dynamic nexus between specialized academic knowledge production and evidence-based policymaking, aimed at the comprehension, analysis, and management of social crises and predicaments in Iran. Furthermore, to enrich the theoretical literature, scholarly reviews of the most recently published books in the field of Iran’s social problems will be featured in each issue.

To ensure greater cohesion, the journal’s thematic focus areas are structured into the following macro-categories; nonetheless, the journal is receptive to any research that contributes to a deeper understanding of Iran’s social problems:

- Power, stratification, and the reproduction of social and class inequalities
- Development, poverty, deprivation, and social justice
- Economic sociology (labor market, employment, and entrepreneurship within the context of social problems)
2. Social Pathology and Deviance
- Theoretical and applied criminology, misconduct, and social deviance
- Emerging social pathologies in the transition from tradition to modernity
- Ecological issues, environment, and urban/rural ecosystems
3. Culture, Religion, and Identity
- Studies of religion, spirituality, and religiosity in Iranian society (from a sociological perspective)
- Race, ethnicity, and multiple identities
- Communications, media, and transformations in the digital sphere and social networks
4. Agency, Gender, and Family
- Women’s studies, family issues, and transformations in the institution of marriage
- Sociology of sex, gender, and sexuality
- Medical sociology, health, and the body
5. Policymaking and Methodology
- Analysis of social policies, welfare, and state interventions
- Novel methodologies in researching and comprehending Iran’s social problems
- Social demography, migration, and human displacement
