For more than a decade, academic disillusionment has distorted the students' lifeworld.The continuation of academic frustration in the scientific area has made a fundamental question in awoken minds_ a question pertaining to how students narrate the future of the scientific institution and its social consequence. Accordingly, the purpose of the present study is to attain a narrative of the future of the scientific institution in the event of the perpetuation of academic frustration. Based on the constructed nature of the phenomenon under investigation, the research paradigm is interpretive, the study approach is qualitative, and the used method is narrative inquiry. The study population of the study includes all master's degree students at Ilam University in 2025 who were selected using purposive and theoretical sampling and based on the theoretical saturation principle. To collect the data, an in-depth interview was conducted among 14 participants.The data analysis strategy was conducted using the process of coding and thematic analysis.The findings of this study included 8 main themes: including elite decay, unsuccessful livelihood, pervasive affliction, university legitimacy crisis, identity disintegration, pervasive metamorphosis, collapse of the scientific institution, and multidimensional inertia. Finally, the students' narrative of the future was a tragic, bitter, and profound one, compelling policymaker to engage in reflexivity and proffer solutions to avert a comprehensive decline in the future.
